Commercial printing
is a logical companion and natural ally of newspaper publication.
Recognizing the revenue opportunities, combined with potential
economies of scale, Morris acquired two commercial operations
in 1996, both in close proximity to communities served by Morris
newspapers.
Broadcaster Press in Vermillion, S.D., and Flashes Publishers
in Allegan, Mich., produce millions of printed pieces annually,
in addition to the area's own newspapers and shoppers. The publishers'
diverse client base has a continuing need for business forms,
business cards, letterhead, circulars, ad inserts, newsletters,
catalogs, brochures, directories and more.
Broadcaster Press installed the first web offset printing press
in South Dakota in 1968, and today claims two sheet-fed presses
and a six-unit web press. Flashes owns two non-heat-set web
presses along with its own saddle-stitch bindery and full-service
pre-press department.
Morris also accepts commercial printing jobs for outside customers
at its daily community newspaper operations, located primarily
in the Midwest.
