AUGUSTA, GA — April 2, 2007 Ken Knepper has been named publisher of The Newton Kansan in Newton, Kansas. The announcement was made today by William S. Morris IV, president and CEO of Morris Publishing Group, and is effective April 16.

Knepper has been a publisher and advertising director with Midland Newspapers Inc. in Shenandoah, Iowa, since 2005. He oversaw operations at the Valley News Today, published five times a week, the Essex Independent, a weekly newspaper and the Weekly Times, a 24,000-circulation shopper. Knepper started his career as the city reporter and a features photographer with the Abilene (Kan.) Reflector-Chronicle. From 1996 to 2004, Knepper won several writing and photography awards from the Kansas Press Association. He attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan., and Kansas State University.

"He has roots in central Kansas and knows the area. Ken's commitment to producing quality publications and his history of community service will help lead The Newton Kansan to new levels of success."

Knepper lived with his family in Newton from 1966 to 1967 while his father, Derele Knepper, was The Kansan's city editor.
