Times-Union Media Announces Vice President of Audience

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — May 30, 2012 — Kurt Caywood, director of online revenue at The Topeka (Kan.) Capital-Journal since 2009, has been named vice president of audience at Times-Union Media, which publishes The Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville.com and numerous other northeast Florida print and digital outlets.
Caywood started his career as a sportswriter at The Lawrence (Kan.) Journal-World in 1987 and spent the next 20 years in various newsroom positions. In 2007, he was named director of audience development at The Capital-Journal, one of the first persons to hold that position in Morris Publishing Group, parent company of T-U Media and the Topeka property. He has spent the past three years in advertising management.
He becomes T-U Media's first VP of audience, a new senior-level position created in each of MPG's metro markets.
"Kurt not only has a unique grasp on all facets of our business, he understands the opportunities and challenges ahead of us as we transform into a digital- and audience-first media company," said Mark Nusbaum, Times-Union Media president. "He'll be a great addition to our senior leadership team."
"Kurt’s background in journalism, as well as digital audience and sales make him uniquely qualified for this leadership role." said Derek May, executive vice president of Morris Publishing Group, "He, along with the dynamic team in Jacksonville, will do a tremendous job."
In his new role, Caywood will lead Times-Union Media's efforts to accelerate the expansion of its reach through traditional news and non-traditional audience channels across a wide range of online and offline platforms.
"This is about making our northeast Florida communities better places," Caywood said. "I'm ecstatic to have the opportunity to help build on the relevance T-U Media and all its brands have as information sources and business partners."
Caywood is a graduate of the University of Kansas. He and his wife, Missy, have two children, Jack and Madeline. His mother, Barbara Caywood, was a longtime sportswriter at Florida Today in Melbourne and is a Florida High School Athletic Association hall of fame inductee.
