Morris Claims Three Online Awards

AUGUSTA, GA — June 19, 2000 — The Newspaper Association of America (NAA) today awarded three prestigious Digital Edge Awards to Morris Communications Corp. newspapers. Two awards also cited Morris DigitalWorks™, the online division of Morris Communications. The "Edgies" were announced and presented during Connections, NAA's annual electronic media conference, taking place at San Francisco's Moscone Center June 17-20.

Outdoor Division Promotes Jeff Noland

AUGUSTA, GA — June 16, 2000 — Fairway, the outdoor advertising division of Augusta-based Morris Communications Corp., has named Jeff Noland director of corporate real estate. In the newly created position, Noland will continue to work from his current Greenville/Spartanburg, S.C., location.

Formerly director of real estate for the Greenville/Spartanburg market area, Nolan now will be responsible for helping to establish a company-wide strategic plan for real-estate development.

John Fish Promoted to Top Spot in Topeka

AUGUSTA, GA — May 30, 2000 — John Fish has been named publisher of The Topeka (Kan.) Capital-Journal, effective Monday, June 5. He succeeds John Goossen, who resigned last week.

Morris Names New Publisher in South Dakota

Augusta, GA — April 21, 2000 — Rita Thomas has been named publisher of the Yankton (S.D.) Daily Press & Dakotan. Thomas also will become publisher of the Yankton Publishing Group, which includes a nondaily newspaper (Vermillion Plain Talk) and two free community papers (Missouri Valley Shopper and The Broadcaster).

Morris Names New Director of Human Resources

AUGUSTA, GA — February 28, 2000 — Martha Jean McHaney has been named corporate director of human resources for Morris Communications Corp.

In her new position, McHaney will be responsible for all human resource programs and policies, benefits administration and training. She will assume her duties in Augusta March 27.

Morris Site Named Top In Nation By NAA

AUGUSTA, GA — July 18, 1999 — has been named the best online newspaper site in the nation in the under-75,000 circulation category by the Newspaper Association of America.

The Web site is the product of MCC's online services division and The Glenwood Post in Glenwood Springs, The Citizen Telegram in Rifle and The Eagle Valley Enterprise in Eagle.

Fairway Wins National Awards

AUGUSTA, GA — June 24, 1999 — Fairway Outdoor Advertising has won two national ADDY AWARDs, the American Advertising Federation's highest recognition, for a billboard campaign designed by national creative director Daniel B. O'Shea.

The two prize-winning boards are titled "See the Mamas and the Papas" and "Come See the Little Rascals." Both feature relevant paintings from the permanent collection of the Morris Museum of Art.
