John Fish Promoted to Top Spot in Topeka

AUGUSTA, Ga. - John Fish has been named publisher of The Topeka (Kan.) Capital-Journal, effective Monday, June 5. He succeeds John Goossen, who resigned last week.

A 20-year veteran of the newspaper industry, Fish is currently assistant general manager of The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle where his responsibilities include oversight of the newsroom and the production and Internet departments. He joined the Chronicle staff in 1988 and was managing editor for seven years.

"We are very pleased to recognize John's experience and achievements with this promotion. The company is fortunate to have people of his caliber in key management roles," said William S. Morris III, chairman and CEO of Morris Communications, parent company of both the Capital-Journal and the Chronicle .

Jim Currow, vice president for metro newspapers for Morris, added, "John is a strong leader with strong people skills, and he's sure to have a positive impact on both the newspaper and the community."

Fish is a former board member and president of the Georgia Associated Press and a current board member of the Georgia Press Association.
