MORRIS
AND ECO PRODUCTIONS TO LAUNCH BILINGUAL MAGAZINE
Augusta,
Ga. - Morris Communications today announced it has signed
an agreement with Eco Productions Inc., St. Augustine, Fla.,
to jointly publish a Spanish-English magazine. The magazine,
entitled Eco Latino, will be based in St. Augustine,
Fla., and initially distributed from Jacksonville southward
to Palm Coast, Fla. The premier issue is scheduled for October
2002.
Eco Latino seeks to enrich
the lives of the Hispanic population, serve as a liaison among
cultural communities and promote Hispanic heritage. It is the
only publication in Northeast Florida to be presented in a bilingual
format.
The free monthly magazine will
present readers with a combination of regional news, international
news, career opportunities, health updates, legal and immigration
issues, financial information and other articles of interest
to the Hispanic community. Advertisements may also be in bilingual
format.
"This is a marriage of resources
that makes good business sense for both parties," said Morris
Communications President Will Morris. "Our resources and strong
presence in the First Coast marketplace allow Eco Latino
to provide a valuable service to the area's Hispanic population.
At the same time, Morris gains greater diversity in its products
and its readers."
Sebastian de Almenara, St. Augustine,
has been named general manager of the new magazine.
"We are very excited about the
launch of Eco Latino," said Almenara. "At last the Hispanic
population will benefit from a magazine created by 'Latinos
for Latinos.'"
Luis Vienrich, editor, and Javier Esboña,
advertising director, will join Almenara as members of the management
team. All three are partners in Eco Productions Inc., which
will own the magazine jointly with Morris Communications.
