MEDITORIAL PAGE EDITOR NAMED AT TOPEKA CAPITAL-JOURNAL

AUGUSTA, Ga.—Douglas J. Anstaett, editor and publisher of The Newton (Kan.) Kansan, has been named editor of the editorial page of The Topeka (Kan.) Capital-Journal, succeeding Michael F. Ryan. The announcement was made today by William S. Morris IV, president of Morris Communications, parent company of both daily newspapers.

Anstaett, a Kansas native and a journalism graduate of Kansas State University, is a 30-year veteran of the newspaper business. He began his career as a reporter in Pittsburg, Kan., and later worked as a reporter for the Capital-Journal. He has held editorial and management positions with the Nevada (Mo.) Daily Mail, The Grand Island (Neb.) Independent, and The Brookings (S.D.) Register. In 1987, he became editor and publisher of the Kansan.

"Doug is an excellent choice for this leadership role in Topeka," Morris said. "He has won numerous writing awards throughout his career and has long experience with issues important to the citizens of Kansas. We expect he will have a strong, positive influence in the Topeka community."

Anstaett will assume his new responsibilities in Topeka July 7, 2003.
