FOUR MORRIS NEWSPAPERS HONORED WITH NAA ADVERTISING, CIRCULATION AND MARKETING AWARDS

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Newspaper Association of America has recognized four Morris newspapers - the Lubbock (Texas) Avalanche-Journal, The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle, the Amarillo (Texas) Globe-News, and The (Jacksonville) Florida Times-Union - with a total of eight ACME (Advertising, Circulation, and Marketing Excellence) awards for Best of Show, excellence, merit or honorable mentions. The awards were announced last month at NAA's annual ACME awards ceremony in San Diego, Calif.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal won Best of Show for the newspaper's "TG Trees & Garden Center Four Page Insert." The Journal also won two Excellence awards in the under-75,000 circulation classification: one for the "50th Anniversary of the U.S. Small Business Administration" campaign in the "Government and Education" category, and another in the "Associations and Nonprofits" category for the "Better Business Bureau Eye on the Marketplace" special section. The paper won Honorable Mention in the "Health Care" category for the "Southwest Regional Wound Care Center" campaign.

The Augusta Chronicle won the Excellence Award in the 75,000-to-150,000 circulation "Direct/Targeted Marketing" category for the newspaper's "Direct Marketing Campaign." The Chronicle also won a Merit Award in the "Newspaper In Education/Literacy" category for its "Great Days Start with NIE!" campaign.

The Amarillo Globe-News won Honorable Mention in the under-75,000 circulation "Subscription Sales/Promotion" category for the newspaper's "Final Four" promotion.

The Florida Times-Union won Honorable Mention in the over-150,000 circulation "Multi-Market Retail or National Ad Sales Presentation" category for the newspaper's Parisian campaign.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, The Augusta Chronicle, Amarillo Globe-News and The Florida Times-Union are all part of Morris Publishing Group, which was formed in 2001 and assumed the operations of the newspaper business segment of its parent, Morris Communications Co.
