MORRIS NAMES FRANK DENTON VICE PRESIDENT OF NEWS

AUGUSTA, Ga.Frank M. Denton has been named to the new position of vice president of news, effective immediately. The announcement was made today by Morris Communications Co. President William S. Morris IV.

Denton's career in newspapers spans more than 40 years. Most recently, Denton was the editor of the Tampa (Fla.) Tribune, a position he left in December 2004. Prior to that, Denton served as the editor of the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison for 17 years. He has also held positions at the Detroit Free Press, The Cincinnati Enquirer, The Anniston (Ala.) Star, the Austin-American Statesman and Stuart Long News Service in Austin, Texas. Denton earned a Ph.D. in mass communication/marketing in 1996 from the University of Wisconsin.

Denton's responsibilities at Morris will include working with each of the company's daily and nondaily newspapers to advance journalistic practices and build readership and circulation.

"Frank's wealth of experience makes him an ideal choice for this position," Morris said. "We are confident he will add a seasoned element of guidance to Morris newsrooms, as he provides direction, support and leadership."

Carl N. Cannon and James C. Currow, both executive vice presidents of newspapers, agreed with Morris.

"With nearly four decades' worth of experience to draw from and an impressive track record of success and excellence behind him, we are certainly privileged to have attracted a man with the stature of Frank Denton," Cannon said.

"Frank has a reputation as not only a trusted editor, but also as someone who is highly skilled at problem-solving and leading those under his charge to new heights," Currow said. "We look forward to Frank applying his talent and abilities to Morris newsrooms."

Morris Publishing Group was formed in 2001 and assumed the operations of the newspaper business segment of its parent, Morris Communications Co., LLC. Morris Publishing Group publishes 26 daily, 12 nondaily and 23 free community newspapers in the United States.
